Edith Walker Hong

Edith Walker Hong Foundation

Edith Walker Hong, known as "Ede," was my college friend who passed away suddenly in 2023. We were friends for over 50 years. She was a special education teacher who brought light not only into the lives of her students, but also to her all who loved her. Ede and I were true Long Island girls.

This foundation was established in her honor to award scholarships to students seeking to follow in her footsteps. To donate:

A Fan at Ponquogue Beach

On the Hunt in Hampton Beach

My sorority sister recently attended our college reunion at SUNY Oswego. She'd previously written to me saying she'd read the Hampton Thoroughbreds series books one through four and loved them. While in the Hamptons, she took off in search of places mentioned in the books. She located Ponquogue Beach in Hampton Bays and walked in the sand and surf (see photo). The next morning, she headed to Eckart's Luncheonette in Westhampton Beach. She texted me, "I've just eaten the best egg sandwich I've ever tasted!" If you are headed out to the Hamptons, email me and I'll share some of the great places to visit, especially the North Fork, which now is full of vineyards and wine tasting rooms, plus quaint small towns.

Vineyards of the North Fork

Growing up, the entire North Fork of Long Island was nothing but potato fields. Imagine my delight, when out scouring for antiques, I discovered the land had been bought and turned into vineyards. Many, many vineyards. (Photos courtesy of my sorority sister.)
